How Your Diet Is Affecting Your Sleep

Our diets affect a lot of aspects of our health and sleeping health is no exception. If you are eating the wrong foods, you’ll be struggling with sleep. Somtex can help with this, but having a better eating plan will help a lot.

We all know that you shouldn’t have coffee before bed, but did you know that coffee can ruin sleep for twelve hours after you’ve consumed it. That means your 8 AM coffee will still be causing problem at 8 PM as well. It’s best to stick to the decaf and avoid anything with a high caffeine content. Similarly to caffeine, nicotine will also cause sleep problems. Try to quit smoking altogether, or at least don’t smoke closer than two hours before bed time.

You could be eating the healthiest food in the world, but if you eat too much of it too close to when you want to go to sleep, you’re going to have problems. Since your stomach will be active digesting the food, you’ll find it difficult to get to sleep. Foods that are spicy are acidic will especially cause problems.

While many people think that some alcohol before bed will help them sleep better, the opposite is true. Alcohol wreaks havoc on a sleeping pattern and you’ll be waking up constantly.

Avoid drinking too much of anything in the two hours before bed. Having to get up for bathroom visits throughout the night will leave you feeling drowsy in the mornings.

If you really are hungry before bed, some light snacks are better than others. Night time snacks that have worked for other people include a small bowl of cereal, some granola with yogurt, half of a turkey sandwich or a fruit, like a banana. Be sure to use Somtex as well.
